Description

Improving how we render animals unconscious with as little pain and distress as possible is always a priority to improve animal welfare. Dr. Marie Culhane with the University of Minnesota College of Veterinary Medicine and Dr. Alison Small, principal research scientist with CSIRO McMaster Laboratory in Australia, will discuss two new stunning methods that could potentially improve animal welfare. They will cover high-expansion nitrogen foam and its potential uses in swine and poultry and diathermic syncope and its possible uses in cattle in both religious and conventional slaughter, and potential use in sheep.
