Dr. Karly Anderson is a Scientist and Trainer with the Humane Handling Institute at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls. She completed her BS at the University of Wisconsin – River Falls, MS at the University of Minnesota, and PhD at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln with a focus on animal health, welfare, and precision management. Dr. Anderson is also one of the leaders of the Animal Welfare Lab, where current research activities are focused on understanding and refining captive bolt stunning and euthanasia for a variety of livestock species, as well as understanding the root causes of humane handling enforcement actions issued by USDA FSIS. The overarching goal of Dr. Anderson’s work is to improve the lives – and deaths – of the animals we raise for food, and in turn improve the lives of the people who care for those animals.
