Susan Usjak has been employed in food safety and sanitation at Maple Leaf Foods since 2011, developing extensive expertise in Environmental Monitoring Programs and Root Cause Analysis. In her capacity, Susan led the standardization of the company’s Sanitation Effectiveness Swabbing programs through comprehensive in-plant EMP assessments, which resulted in a reduction in Listeria detection rates. She is currently responsible for conducting internal sanitation audits across the Maple Leaf network, ensuring plant compliance with company standards and promoting best practices. Susan holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Biology, specializing in Ecology and Molecular Ecology, from the University of Waterloo.
